Prifti/Hughes is the collaborative project of artists Anna Prifti and Andrea Hughes, two established practitioners who bring their distinct yet complementary practices into dialogue. Their partnership is built on a foundation of mutual respect, shared curiosity, and a deep understanding of their materials. Together, they explore how collaboration can open up new creative possibilities, challenging the boundaries of individual authorship.
Each artwork in this body of work is born from a dynamic and responsive exchange. Prifti/Hughes approach the surface not with a fixed plan, but through intuitive processes—layering paint, negotiating gesture, and responding to each other’s marks in real time. Their discussions are visual as much as verbal, and each painting becomes a conversation between two minds and four hands.
Rather than blending into a single voice, their styles remain distinct. This creates a visual tension that is both compelling and generative. The push and pull between their approaches gives the work its energy, allowing for complexity, contrast, and moments of unexpected harmony. The compositions are carefully balanced, often walking the line between spontaneity and resolution.
Materiality plays a central role in their practice. The artists treat paint as both subject and medium—considering its weight, movement, and surface effects. This sensitivity results in richly textured works that reward close attention. Gestural marks are layered with precision; colour fields are interrupted and reassembled; form emerges, dissolves, and reasserts itself.
Together, Prifti/Hughes create work that is alive with possibility. Their collaboration is not just a merging of two practices, but a fertile space for experimentation, risk-taking, and discovery.
They welcome commission enquiries and are open to future collaborative projects. Please get in touch to explore potential opportunities.
