About
Mike Rutherford worked as an advertising, graphic design photographer in Australia, Singapore, the UK, and the US. He learnt his craft in the analogue era, working with 10×8 cameras,120 and 35mm and black and white darkroom printing. He now pursues personal work without the constraints of shooting for commercial outlets and has embraced digital photography with its capacity to be manipulated – taking the image through to producing the final print.
Mike Rutherford uses images which convey a dramatic, darker style with a social message, mainly with an emphasis of what is important for the planet’s survival.
In 2020, Mike won a gold medal at the San Francisco International Photography Awards, was runner up in the New York Center for Photographic Art Black and White Awards, exhibited at the Los Angeles Center for Photography Black Lives Matter Exhibition and the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, California as well as featuring in group shows in Athens and Texas.
