Mike Rutherford is an accomplished photographer whose career spans multiple continents including Australia, Singapore, the UK, and the US. Known for his work in advertising and graphic design photography, Mike developed his craft during the analogue era. He mastered large format cameras like the 10×8, as well as 120 and 35mm film, honing skills in black and white darkroom printing. Today, he pursues personal photographic projects free from commercial constraints, embracing digital photography’s flexibility to manipulate images and produce powerful final prints.
His photographic style is dramatic and often darker in tone, carrying a strong social message focused on urgent environmental issues. Mike’s work emphasizes the importance of the planet’s survival and encourages viewers to reflect on humanity’s impact on nature.
In 2020, Mike Rutherford won a gold medal at the San Francisco International Photography Awards, a testament to his technical skill and artistic vision. He was also runner-up in the New York Center for Photographic Art Black and White Awards. His work has been exhibited at prominent venues such as the Los Angeles Center for Photography Black Lives Matter Exhibition and the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, California. Additionally, his photographs featured in group shows in Athens and Texas.
