Early Education and Artistic Training
Cezary Stulgis is an accomplished Australian visual artist and sculptor with a rich background in fine arts. He began his artistic journey by earning a Certificate of Arts and Design in Brisbane in 1992. He then completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, in 1995. Eager to refine his skills further, Cezary earned a Master of Fine Arts with Distinction from the renowned Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Poland, in 2000. This international experience significantly shaped his approach to sculpture and public art.
Exhibition History and Artistic Style
Over the past three decades, Cezary has developed a significant body of work, focusing primarily on public sculptures that actively engage communities across Australia. His solo exhibitions have taken place in major cities including Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Sydney, Melbourne, and internationally in Poland. These exhibitions demonstrate his versatility in both scale and material, as he blends traditional sculptural techniques with contemporary forms to create dynamic, thought-provoking works.
Public Commissions and Themes
Cezary’s public art commissions form a vital part of his career. He has collaborated with numerous corporations, councils, and community organisations to create more than 20 large-scale public sculptures. These pieces often explore themes such as nature, renewal, and the passage of time. Through his sculptures, he invites viewers to reflect on the deep relationship between human life and the natural environment.
Awards, Residencies, and Representation
In recognition of his artistic achievements, Cezary received the Creative Sparks Grant from Brisbane City Council in 2007 and the Regional Arts Development Fund from Sunshine Coast Council in 2009. Currently, he is completing a Winter Residency at Yarra Sculpture Gallery, a space dedicated to experimental and site-responsive sculpture. Moreover, he is represented by West End Art Space in Melbourne, which supports his ongoing exhibitions and commission projects.
Commissions and Artistic Philosophy
Cezary welcomes sculpture commissions and frequently collaborates with clients to create unique, site-specific artworks tailored to individual tastes and environments. His work balances aesthetic beauty with conceptual depth, making each piece a meaningful addition to both public and private spaces. “If there is one certainty in life, it’s that nothing lasts forever. Nature reminds us of this undeniable fact again and again—through changing seasons and endless cycles of life. Despite man’s obsession with immortality, the only eternal truth is that life continues—through renewal and rebirth.”
