Set within an institution, the work depicts a figure restrained in a straitjacket, surrounded by faces that emerge from within its folds. These faces represent the multiple identities and internal voices he is struggling to reconcile, transforming the garment itself into a physical manifestation of his psychological state.

Despite the darkness of the imagery, the work is ultimately one of hope and recovery. It explores the figure’s relationship with these conflicting parts of himself and, more importantly, his determination to find his way back to the world beyond them.

Although his physical body remains bound, the shadow behind him has broken free. Acting almost as an extension of his will, it represents his continued effort to regain control when he is unable to do so physically.

Scattered before him is a collection of eyes, taken from the surrounding faces and symbolically stripping them of their power. The shadow reaches towards them, selecting a single eye to return. This small but deliberate gesture becomes the pivotal moment within the work: an attempt to restore clarity, wholeness and a sense of self.

Rather than depicting someone consumed by his inner turmoil, the work captures the difficult process of navigating it. The returning eye becomes a symbol of reconnection; a movement away from fragmentation and towards clarity and a return to the world.
