ARTIST STATEMENT:
In the depths of my soul, a seed was planted during my journey to Morocco in 2017. As I embarked on making this body of work, I found myself immersed in the rich tapestry of memories that still replay vividly in my mind.
In the bustling bazaars of Marrakech, my senses were awakened by an enchanting symphony. The air was filled with the alluring fragrance of leather an incense, mingling with the whispers of desert breezes. The rhythmic rustle of palm trees above added a melodic touch, echoing the harmonious spirit of this extraordinary place.
What captivated me most was the kaleidoscope of shimmering colours that adorned Marrakech. The vibrant palette painted the city with strokes of ochre, tan, and Majorelle blue. Splashes of gold, brass, and bronze added a touch of opulence and grandeur.
But it was the intimate moments that truly left a mark on my heart. I remember walking barefoot through our riad at nightfall, the warmth of the paving stones embracing my every step. In those quiet moments in our once royal riad, the city revealed its secrets and whispered tales of ancient souls who once roamed these same pathways.
Marrakech, a city that has always been a magnet for creative souls throughout the ages, possesses an intangible magic. It has beckoned writers, designers, artists, and poets. The energy that pulses through its streets is both open and welcoming, yet shrouded in an enigmatic aura, leaving visitors forever captivated by its mysteries.
Today, as I stand before you, sharing this long cherished personal dream come true, I invite you to immerse yourselves in the essence of Marrakech. Through my art, I strive to recreate the vibrancy, the colours, and the dreams that reside within this extraordinary city. Let these works transport you to a realm where reality merges with imagination, where the past intertwines with the present.
