Caught in the deluge of tropical storms in Darwin, Melbourne artist Wendy Kelly was overpowered by the intensity and quantity of water that fell. For a Melbournian, where heavy falls are rare, the density and the length of time the water fell were staggering. The soaking water fell so heavily it obliterated everything over a meter away from sight. It was from this experience that Kelly produced a series of works over the next four to five years in her Melbourne studio.
