Cally Lotz

Cally Lotz is a Melbourne based artist primarily known for her still life paintings. Employing a highly articulate style, she uses low key, non-narrative imagery to explore complex psychological states such as containment, austerity and isolation. Her motifs such as empty buckets, parcels and plastic bottles exist only as empty signifiers, enabling a deeper and more meaningful investigation into these concerns and the formal aspects of representational painting.

Lotz completed an MFA (with Higher Distinction) in 2019 at RMIT Melbourne, and a BVA (Hons) at The University of South Africa (UNISA). Her work has been exhibited in South Africa, Germany, India and Australia. She has been the recipient of numerous residencies including St Vincent’s Melbourne 2014-1015, AIR Vallauris France, 2017, and Sandbox Studios Melbourne 2019-2020. Her work is held in public collections including Sasol and UNISA in South Africa, St Vincent’s in Melbourne and AIR Vallauris in France.
